SoWa Market Haunted

SoWa Market Haunted

Possibly the last SoWa Open Market of 2011 is hunted. Took these pictures as proof. It’s not always like this. Most Sundays during the summer, the market hosts a variety of vendors selling original art, while surrounded by food trucks. Food trucks are relatively new to Boston and I’m glad that they’re finally here.

I would’ve taken more photos, but the camera died. This is the first time my D5k left me high and dry. The battery indicator indicated one bar when I left the house, I wanted to see how far I could push it (kinda like braving an empty fuel tank of a car). Well, soon after these shots, it shut down the shutter, effectively ending the fun.

For those who know me know I’m a firm believer that Bon Me makes one of the best sandwiches in the world. It’s the kind of sandwich you order as your last meal when on death row (forget the steak dinner). All summer, practically every Sunday I’ve made my pilgrimage to the market to pick up my sandwich and drink (usually the Thai-basil limeade) and proceeded to my leisurely walk through the market.

For those who care, here are the sandwich details: fresh toasted baguette with spice-rubbed all natural chicken, plus pickled carrots and daikon, cilantro, red onion, house-made spicy mayo, and house-made pâté. Recently, they added jalapeño as an option, which only makes things better. These guys will be parked by BPL this winter on Saturdays if you want to partake. Love the fact they remember my name. I wish I was this good at remembering names.

Armed with my sandwich, I loved to take in the local art (bought the “Lemmings” t-shirt by Marc Roulstone), or things for the home (bought a nice scented soy-based candle from Fifth & Madison (recommend Coronado Breeze–it’s aromatherapy at its best!).

It’s also worth mentioning I usually hit the Flour Bakery on the way home for two reasons: one, a meal is not complete without dessert; two: Flour Bakery’s Banana bread rocks! Just wish they had better coffee, then life would be just perfect.

Needless to say, I will miss SoWa market. It represents best of what Boston has to offer. Good local food and art in one big parking lot. Another reason to look forward to summer.
