Making Great Art

Making Great Art

Visual art comes in many forms: paintings, drawings, mixed media, photography, and digital. Although, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, one thing always remains true for all great art and the artists who create them, to break the rules — you must first know them.

Case in point, can you guess who drew this?

It was Pablo Picasso. This is his Study of a Torso, After a Plaster Cast, 1893-94 (Musée Picasso), age 12 or 13

While Picasso promoted the value of unlearning academic traditions, it is important to remember that he had mastered its techniques by a very early age. Though art is often subjective, most critiques consider the following when evaluating great art: technical skill, creativity, subject, message, and body of work.
